Feeling Moved?

With the Covid-19 Pandemic and the Utah earthquake last week, many people are feeling motivated to review, update, increase or even begin gathering some emergency preparedness supplies. Whether a 3 hour kit, 72 hour kit, 2 week storage, 3 month supply, 6 month supply, year or more supply.  Whichever stage you are on or just beginning, we are here to help guide you through your project.

We have been working this month on 72 hour kits.  The "grab and go" bag for each family member or at minimum a large bag, suitcase or bin with enough supplies for you and your family to grab in the case of an emergency evacuation in which your home becomes inhabitable or is threatened and you are instructed to leave quickly and get to a safe place.

This week, we want to focus on some miscellaneous items, beyond water, food and clothing. Including adding some spiritual preparedness to your kits too. Even in emergencies we still need to have our spiritual wits about us. As we gather supplies, don't forget to update or add a few items to your Vital Records Binder.  Gather and add to your binder a medical history (a list of conditions, past procedures and allergies), lists of medications for each family member along with a list of prescriptions and medical release forms.

Baby Steps:  Add a first aid kit and toiletry items, such as soap, toothbrush & paste, lotion, tissues and hand sanitizer.  Try to compile travel sizes. Men's, Women's and even Kid's toiletry kits are available for purchase.  If you have a large family or want to combine with other families or even do a ward bulk purchase, kits are available in bulk here, or here. Add spiritual items to your kits such as a small set of scriptures and hymn book.

5K:  Add cooking supplies and tools. Conserve space by adding a "backpacking style" cooking set, dishes, stove and fuel.  Don't forget eating utensils.  Consider adding a multi-tool (Leatherman type) or "Swiss Army Knife". For the spiritual aspect add a copy of your patriarichal blessing in addition to scriptures and hymn book

Marathon: Update or add to your First-Aid kit.  If you have a basic kit or even a tad bigger, consider adding more advanced items such as shears, snake bite kit, medical gloves & mask, butterfly or steri-strip closures, etc.  Add a small vial of consecrated oil and a sacrament kit.
