Don't Forget Me!

Do you have family pets?  Plan ahead and have some extra food, water,  medication and supplies stored that your pet may need in the event of a time that you are not able to go to the store or need to evacuate your home for a time.  Think about travel food bowls, bedding, sanitation, transportation etc. in addition to just food.

MEDICATIONS

This week, our suggestion is to compile a medication kit including 7 days worth of daily prescription medications as well as a smaller container of over the counter medications such as Tylenol (acetaminophen) or Advil (ibuprofen).  Fill your medications on the first day possible to get a little bit ahead and put the extras in your medication kit. If your family includes children, don't forget to include medications appropriate for their age.   Other over the counter items such as antacids, cough drops, anti-diarrheal, laxative, allergy medication and ointments etc. should also be included. (If not already in your first aid kit, or keep in BOTH!) Look for trial sizes or create small containers from your regular use size bottles. Be sure to clearly label containers with the drug name and dosage instructions.  Print out and fill in one of these Personal Medical Card s for each family member. Include these cards in your medication kit along with a copy of your medical insurance informa

First Aid Kits

It is your choice how extensive of and how many first aid kits to have.  Many people have some form of first aid supplies in their home and/or car.  For some, it may just be a box of band-aids and others, a full EMT kit.  Somewhere in between is perfectly fine, as long as it is something to fit your needs in the event of an emergency.  You can always add to it (or take away) as needed.   Did you know that HSA or Cafeteria funds can be used to purchase a first aid kit?  So, if you have some "use or lose" funds, stock up on a suitable first aid kit or two. First Aid kits make wonderful Christmas gifts for your grown up kids homes, (or for yourself!) especially if you don't feel that you want to give "emergency preparedness supplies" as some people do.  Both are good ideas. Either will be relevant in an emergency or disaster situation.   First aid kits are available in various sizes and costs or you can put together your own customized to you and your family.  HER

Brrr... Weather is a changin'...

The weather is getting colder. ARE YOU PREPARED for an emergency during the winter? We have all been made keenly aware this year that emergencies can happen,  and we need to be PREPARED. And if,   “Ye are prepared ye shall not fear.” Click HERE for great suggestions on heat sources.  Many of us bought generators a couple years ago, but do you have fuel to use it in an emergency?  Click HERE to see tips on fuels and how to safely store them.
