EMERGENCY WATER WELL

A shallow well water pump is another great option when it comes to having a good emergency water supply. Shallow well kits can be purchased online and installed by one person in an hour or two. The well can be installed anywhere there is clay soil, which is perfect for our area. To learn more about the Emergency Water Well, how to use it, and where you can get one, click here .

MRE review

MRE stands for "meal, ready-to-eat". They're convenient and easy to use, and there are a wide variety of foods available, including main dishes, snacks, desserts and beverages. MREs are used as military rations, and packed with calories because they are meant to sustain soldiers in the field. They are a great option to add to emergency kits because of their portability and ease of use. But it's always a good idea to test out the products you store before you plan on using them. That's what my family decided to do this week. We learned a few things from our MRE dinner experience... Rule #1- Don't eat too much!  My poor little 7-year-old enjoyed the Beef Ravioli a little too much, and became famous the next day when he puked it all over his first grade classroom. Lesson learned! There is such a thing as too much of a good thing. MREs are packed with calories, so they are super heavy for someone who isn't burning massive amounts of calories per d...

FHE: In Case of Emergency

Graphic from The Mormon Home It's always good to have an emergency contact list to refer to when needed, but this list is even more important for anyone dealing with a spiritual emergency. Although it's so important to follow the counsel of the prophets and temporally prepare for whatever may come, it's even more important to prepare spiritually for times that will try us. For Family Home Evening tonight, make a treat and check out a few of these scriptures to find out the answers to your spiritual emergencies. “Most of us have thought about how to prepare for storms. We have seen and felt the suffering of women, men, and children, and of the aged and the weak, caught in hurricanes, tsunamis, wars, and droughts. One reaction is to ask, ‘How can I be prepared?’ And there is a rush to buy and put away whatever people think they might need for the day they might face such calamities. But there is another even more important preparation we must make for tests that a...

Warm Clothing & Fabrics

Tonight I spent an hour walking in the frigid 23 degree weather. It doesn't sound very cold, but it felt more like 10 below zero because I wasn't prepared at all! I wore a t-shirt and light-weight sweats, regular socks with tennis shoes, my good winter coat with a fleece liner, a pair of wool gloves and a fleece ear warmer. My mid-section was nice and toasty, which tells me that my coat is great. My hands were warm for most of the time, but when they started to get cold, I put them in my coat pockets and they were fine. My ears were cold. My feet were warm, but if they had gotten wet at all, I would have been done for. My face, neck and legs were so cold, they were stinging. When I got home, my face and especially my legs, were bright red and swollen, and turning white. What I realized tonight was that if I had had to spend any longer outside than I already did, I would have ended up with some frostbite. The next time I decide to go walking in freezing temperatures, I plan to b...
